Welcome to St Clements home on the World Wide Web! St Clements is an Anglican Church in the Archdiocese of York. We are a friendly parish, and you can find us on Scarcroft Road in York - click here for a location map, which will open in a new window. In August 2005, the parishes of St Clement and St Mary Bishophill Junior were combined to form a new parish of St Clement with St Mary Bishophill, and Father Andrew Stoker became the first Rector of the new parish.
St Mary Bishophill Junior is the oldest church building in York other than the Minster, and retains many of its original features, including some stunning medieval glass, and several examples of Roman architecture, originally used in Roman public buildings, and cleverly incorporated into the church!
St Clements church building is a Victorian gem, built close to the City Walls, and serving the parish which lies between those Walls and South Bank, close to York Racecourse (the Knavesmire). Consecrated in 1874, the church has seen many changes, but retains much of its original character, as well as being equipped with modern kitchen and toilet facilities.
Do not be put off by the stern exterior! Inside, as well as a warm and welcoming congregation, are many interesting artifacts, including a Saxon grave cover, examples of Roman stonework, a 'Father Willis' organ, and an oak choir and chancel from the craftsmen of 'Mousey Thompson'.
We hold regular Coffee Mornings on the first Saturday of the month between 10 a.m. and 11:30, as well as other regular social activities, listed in the 'Events' section, and also mentioned on the 'News' page.
Please feel free to join us at any of our regular Church Services - details in ''About Us' on the menu bar above. We try to make all our worship accessible, understandable, and relevant to life in the 21st Century.
Our priest is Father Andrew Stoker, who can be contacted on York (01904) 624425
